The term cadastral surveying is very particular and SPECIFICALLY refers to the accurate depiction and dimensions of boundaries and ownership titles of land parcels and property. As part of the process, the cadastral surveyor will do background research to establish / demonstrate property rights and ownership, sometimes in association with a legal professional. A cadastral survey / map is a legal document hence practitioners have to be professionally qualified (and in those countries operating a Cadastre such as the USA, state qualified as a cadastral surveyor).
