Bar Type Structures: A structure whose cross sectional dimensions are negligibly small as compare to length, for example beams columns etc., are known as bar type structures.

Plate type Structures: A structure whose cross sectional dimensions are not negligibly small as compare to length are known as plate type structures, for example plates.
