Definition of salinity
When the water table is close to the surface, and the water rises to or very close to the ground surface, evaporates leaving behind dissolved salts in the soil pores and ultimately on the surface. This phenomenon is known as salinity.
- Water may rise to the ground surface by the capillary action.
- Whitish sals appearing on the surface usually is sodium chloride.
- But other salts present in ground water are also found.
