Road Camber
The convexity or curvature of the road to avoid staying of water is known as camber. The highest point of camber is known as crown.
Camber is
- To curve upward in the middle.
- to arch slightly.
Road Camber height depends upon
- Rainfall intensity in the area.
- Type of the road surface whether it is flexible or rigid.
- In case of flexible pavement, the recommended height of camber is 2 %. of the total width of the pavement.
- For rigid pavement, the maximum recommended width is 1:72 .
Drawback of providing excessive road camber height
- It reduces the road width as everyone will try to move on the middle of the road.
- Chances of accidens will increase.
- The passengers feel unbalance and discomfort during journey.
- The road will wear and tear on the edges.
Types of road camber
Parabolic camber
Its shape is of parabola and is used in flexible pavement.
Sloping camber
It is provided in case of rigid pavement (concrete pavement). As it is difficult to give rigid pavement shape of parabola.
Composite camber
