Summary of Bearing Capacity Equation:
- All of the equations fail to produce the solution so called the exact solution of the concentrically loaded footings the equation which is still preferred by some of the users is Terzaghi’s equation, the reason behind it is that, it is simple and it has wide data base.
- It is usually claimed by the users of the terzagi’s equation that the soil with a very little or no cohesion, the bearing capacity value could be over conservative for Df/B between 0.5 and 2.
- There are two more equations which are used substantially Meyerhof and Hansen, there is another equation which although is not commonly used, the Vesic’s equation although it is recommended by API RP 2A.
- There could be a uncertainty of over burden pressure that is why the depth factor di is not to be used for the equation.
